Welcome to Bigyn Primary School
Bigyn Primary School is located in the coastal town of Llanelli which is in South Wales. We are a school that caters for children from the ages of 3 to 11. We have about 230 pupils in our school. There are eight different classes which are all organised according to age. Our Headteacher is Mr Marc Howells and we have eight teachers and ten learning support assistants.
Our pupils attend school from 9am to 3:15pm five days a week. The children are in school for 39 weeks of the year. We have two weeks off school at Christmas, two weeks off at Easter and six weeks off in the Summer. In addition, we have one week half-term breaks three times a year. School starts back in the first week of September and finishes in the third week of July.
We are an English language school. In our hometown of Llanelli, half the primary schools are English language schools and half are Welsh language schools. At Bigyn our pupils learn how to speak Welsh as a second language.
Our school is located on the top of a big hill overlooking the town. We also have beautiful views of the sea and Llanelli beach.
At Bigyn we play football, rugby, cricket, netball and hockey. We also take part in swimming and athletics.
Our school motto is “Preparing young people with the skills needed to lead successful lives”.
Our town Llanelli is famous for our rugby team, The Scarlets. Lots of Scarlets players have gone on to play rugby for Wales (other Scarlets players have played for Ireland, Scotland, USA, Canada, Fiji, Samoa and Tonga!).
